Burg Wheelers Cycling Club funds a Cycling Development Programme designed specifically to assist in uplifting previously disadvantaged cyclists.
Club rides are hosted by Burg Wheelers Cycling Club during the week (early mornings and afternoons) with longer weekend rides held on Saturdays.
Burg Wheelers Cycling Club (BWCC) was founded in 1983 from the merging of two prominent cycling clubs in Pietermaritzburg: Maritzburg United Cycling Club (MUCC) and Wanderers Cycling Club (WCC).
MUCC boasts several Springbok Cyclists from the 1970’s: Robbie McIntosh (5 times winner of the Rapport Tour) and Ralph Smout (multiple SA Sprint and SA 1000m Time-trial champion) and WCC boasts Bobby Nefdt (SA Junior Road Champion and SA Elite Road Champion).
Burg Wheelers Cycling Club has grown to become one of the largest and oldest cycling clubs in KwaZulu-Natal, boasting a pre-covid membership of just over 300 cyclists, of all age groups, genders and cycling ability.

Burg Wheelers Cycling Club is a progressive cycling club that has over the years been sponsored by Compendium Insurance Brokers, and is currently sponsored by BRINK Towbars.
The club is currently in negotiations with the Msunduzi Municipality to partnership with them in maintaining and upgrading the Sax Young Velodrome in Alexandra Park. Pietermaritzburg, where we hosted our inaugural 24hr Team Cycle Relay Challenge, with several cyclists clocking over 500km in the specified 24h period.
Members are welcome to race if they choose to do so. However, the best reason of all is the opportunity to connect with other riders.
